"How Can I Receive the Lord Into My Life?"
I had a conversation with a young couple recently. The wife said to me, "I have been in church nearly all of my life. But, the first time that I EVER heard the gospel presented clearly, (as a young adult, I might add), I asked the Lord to come into my heart/life and I received Him as my Savior and Lord."
I also had a lady ask me one time in a cemetery, "Do you really believe in heaven?" And, I responded, "Absolutely, because I am banking my eternity on it. Every time that I stand in a cemetery, I remember that, 'This is not the end of the story! There is an INCREDIBLE REUNION coming and I'm looking forward to seeing all of those people who have already preceded us. They are all still alive, you know!'" Well, all of that begins by getting to know the Lord, personally, and "receiving Him" into your heart/life. So, in answer to the one who asked one time, "How can I receive the Lord into my life, (?)" here is the way that you do so. To do so, join me as we approach this by using the ABC's. To receive the Lord, commit yourself to the following, simple instructions:
A - Admit to the Lord, "I have sinned!"
(Romans 3:23)-"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
(Romans 6:23)-"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
(Romans 3:10)-"As it is written; 'There is no one righteous, not even one.'"
B - Believe That Jesus Christ Died on the Cross for Your Sins and Wants to Save You
(II Corinthians 5:21)-"God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."
(II Peter 3:9)-"The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."
(John 3:16)-"For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
C - Confess Your Sins to the Lord and Your Desire for Him to Save You
(I John 1:9)-"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
(Luke 18:13)-"But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast, and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'"
(Psalm 51:4)-"Against you, you only have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge."
D-Declare Your Intentions to Him in Prayer and to Others in Public Confession
(Romans 10:13)-"for, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'"
(Luke 23:42-43)-"Then he (the thief on the cross) said, 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.' Jesus answered him, 'I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.'"
(John 1:12)-"Yet to all who received him, to all who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God."
(Matthew 10:32-33)-"Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in Heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven."
If you are not sure how to pray to receive Him, use this little prayer as a guide to lead you to Him and pray it to Him from your heart:
"God, I thank You that You love me, and I thank You that You sent Jesus to die on the cross to save me from my sins. I confess to You that I have sinned, and I cannot save myself from my sins. Please forgive me for my sins. Thank You forgiving me. Jesus, please come into my heart and life to be my Savior and Lord. Thank You for dying on the cross to save me. Thank You for receiving me, as I receive You. Thank You for saving me. Thank You for coming into my heart and life! Just like You promised in the Bible, please always let me know that You are there! Thank You that You will never leave me or forsake me for any reason. Thank You that I belong to You forever! Thank You for my eternal life! In Jesus' Name, Amen!"
